Eligibility

Any citizen and resident from a Developing Country, 13 years of age or older can apply. The competition is addressed to architects, artists, designers, engineers, thinkers and curious minds from the so called developing world with any number of years or months of practice (student submissions are welcome!). The $1,000 prize is intended to support designers whose entries reflect systems thinking, sustainability, accessibility, materials exploration, technology, and cultural relevance. Humorous and ironic designs are encouraged having in mind that they have to provide solutions nonetheless.

Maximum Number of Submissions

Each individual or team can submit up to five (5) design solutions.

Original Work

By submitting an entry, whether as a proposal or a working design, the entrant warrants that it is his/her original work and that they have permission to publish the material.

Submission Process

Projects must be submitted via the online submission form.  By clicking the submit button applications are finalized and cannot be altered at a later time.

The online application allows applicants to upload supporting materials. If an attached file is corrupt, we will contact the applicant for a replacement file. In this case replacement files must be received no later than July 1st, 2010, at 11:59 p.m. EST.

Judging

Judges from a broad range of design disciplines will choose the winner and up to fifteen (15) honorary mentions during the month of June 2010. The winner and runners-up will be notified by telephone or email. Judges’ decisions are final.

Winners and finalists’ Obligations

The winner must sign a copy of his/her application assigning the rights to Dx1W to use the design on its Web site, in a printed publication, in art exhibitions and in advertisements and publicity, and license others to do so. We encourage participants to license their works under a creative commons license.

The winner will be asked for and must present publication quality images of the winning project, defined as 300 dpi at 10” x 12”. The winner must provide a publication-quality headshot. The winner will be asked to provide image credits as necessary.

The winner may be asked to present the progress or outcome of his/her project at the announcement ceremonies for the 2010 Dx1W Competition, or in other public discussions.
